Head of Clinical Unit (Internal Medicine) (Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital)
MBChB, FCP (SA) or MMed Internal Medicine. Current Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine and/or Subspecialist in Gastroenterology/Endocrinology/Rheumatology/Medical Oncology.
At least 5 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
Knowledge Skills Training and Competencies required at Head Clinical Unit level: Strong record of clinical expertise, clinical governance, research, teaching and training at under and postgraduate levels.
Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise clinical training and teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship levels. Knowledge in Internal Medicine and/or Subspecialties including provision of direct clinical care, supervision and mentoring of subordinates.
Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team. Other Inherent requirement of the job: The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Internal Medicine and/or Subspecialty Units.
Duties :
The post requires the incumbent to provide a Head of Clinical Unit service in Internal Medicine and/or Subspeciality. In addition, the incumbent will be required to contribute to the general Internal Medicine and Subspecialty unit services at DGMAH and within the cluster.
Provide support to the Head of Department in ensuring that efficient standards of patient care and services are maintained. Support dissemination and implementation of policies, protocols and clinical guidelines aligned with national norms and standards.
Commuted overtime is compulsory and will be undertaken as part of the Internal Medicine and Subspeciality unit services within the hospital. The applicant must have an active interest in research.
