Head Of Clinical Unit - Obstetrics And Gynaecology
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or sub-specialists.
Current registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or sub-specialists for current registration 2026/2027. Certificate (or equivalent degree) in a Subspecialty is an advantage. A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA in your sub-speciality.
Exposure in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, involvement in research and management skills will be of an added advantage.
COMPETENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse group of health professionals, the ability to interpret and implement policies, work with the hospital and academic department using a collaborative approach, mentor junior staff and show commitment to excellence in patient care and a track record of successful academic productivity.
Duties :
To provide direct patient care, clinical management of women and to supervise and teach interns, registrars, and fellows. Undertake regular follow-up ward rounds with interns, Junior Medical Officers, Registrars and Fellows, Design protocols for management of Obstetric and Gynaecological conditions in multidisciplinary team to assist healthcare facilities that refer to our hospital in supporting their clinicians with managing patients in their facilities through running outreach programs and being accessible to them, to perform management and administrative duties.
To develop and sustain clinical services that will contribute towards improving the quality of care and clinical services offered to women requiring Obstetrics and Gynaecological services and the appropriate requirements for management of women who seek care in our hospital, to assist the Head of Department when needed, on different matters around management and running of the Department, to participate in Gauteng Department of Health, Hospital and University management/ administrative structures and committees, to partake in teaching/ training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, to teach and train Medical students, Interns, Medical Officers, Registrars, Fellows, Nurses and Allied, to be involved in development of curriculum for both under and post graduate students, to be involved in all activities around development and growth of Students and Fellows.
To conduct clinical research and partake in research activities and supervision of both under- and post graduate students involved in research, establish, and maintain a database of all patients. Lead the development of relevant research in the subspecialty of her/his choice.
Establish a strong working relationship and research collaboration with other specialists or professionals from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital, other University of the Witwatersrand affiliated hospitals and entities, and both national and international professionals in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (contracting, quarterly reviews and final assessment).
