Internship :Transmission Technician at The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)

Purpose

• The purpose of this 12 months graduate programme is to provide support to CAD department to ensure successful implementation of business initiatives, both TV and Radio, to meet SABC's objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for those who have completed their Diploma/degree/Certificate in Electrical Engineering (minimum S4)  and looking to enhance their skills and experience in the Broadcast environment.

Purpose of the Internship

• The purpose of this 12-month graduate programme is to provide support to the Contribution and Distribution (CAD) Department in ensuring the successful implementation of television and radio business initiatives that support the SABC's strategic objectives.
• This opportunity is ideal for individuals who have completed a Diploma, Degree, or Certificate in Electrical Engineering (minimum S4 qualification) and are eager to gain practical experience and develop specialist skills within the broadcasting and telecommunications industry

About the Team

• The Contribution and Distribution (CAD) unit is a specialised business unit within the SABC Technology Division. The team serves as the technical link between the SABC and its distribution partners, including Sentech, DStv, and Openview.
• CAD is responsible for managing and coordinating the technical aspects of content contribution and distribution, ensuring uninterrupted television and radio services across the country. The team oversees the connectivity of SABC regional offices to Head Office in Auckland Park through fibre networks, while also facilitating connections between outside broadcast operations and SABC studios

Key Responsibilities

The successful intern will be required to:

• Monitor faults and service interruptions across the national television and radio distribution network.
• Ensure maintenance and incident reports are compiled and shared with relevant TV and Radio management teams.
• Monitor and track faults on contribution circuits across Metro Ethernet (ME) fibre and satellite platforms.
• Assist with troubleshooting transmission and distribution-related technical issues.
• Support the maintenance and optimisation of contribution and distribution systems.
• Escalate critical service issues and assist in coordinating resolutions with stakeholders and service providers.
• Maintain accurate operational records and reports

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum S4 qualification in Electrical Engineering (all disciplines considered).
• National Diploma, Degree, or relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering will be advantageous.
• Specialisation or exposure to Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering will be an added advantage.
