Laboratory Assistant - Durban Mill at PepsiCo

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing the media for microbiological analysis and chemicals or solution to be used in laboratory
• Assist in washing and cleaning of equipment and test tubes
• Taking finished recipes out to the archive room
• Record analytical results of batches releaed in analytical lab
• Inspect retention samples and record deviation according to procedure
• General cleaning of incubation room according to master cleaning schedule
• Prepare retention samples for fermentation test and arrange samples in the incubation room
• Perform ad hoc tasks
• Take swabs on equipment and packaging materials
• Sample water for micro-analysis
• Do on-line quality control
• Chemical analysis according to work instructin and sensory evaluation of product conform to specification
• Maintain housekeeping of laboratory
• Verification of laboratory equipment and completion of all records
• Shift handover done daily
• Conduct proficiency testing
• Reaction to bad trends and investigate deviation on spot
• Apply good laboratory practices
• Adhere to legal requirments

Qualifications

• 1 Year experience in FMCG
• Matric
• National diploma/degree in food technology
• Organize own work
• Apply practices, policies, standards, procedures, and methods
• Satisfy ‘customers’
• Maintain manager and peer relationships
