    Lead Java Product Engineer

    Job Summary

    The CIB Trade team is looking for a Lead Product Engineer to build high-performing, scalable, enterprise-grade applications & build capability in others to do the same. This includes but is not limited to applying critical thinking, design thinking and problem solving skills in an agile team environment to solve complex technical problems (Front End, Back End and Integration) with high quality solutions & leading all phases of the development lifecycle to deliver.

     

     

    Job Description

     

     

    The CIB Trade team supports all trade applications across the Africa continent, for local and international trade, with a range of trade and working capital solutions.

    We offer trade products that will help our clients to manage risks, negotiate terms, and reduce pressure on cash flow to enable our clients to trade confidently and efficiently.

    Our Trade Solutions span both customer-facing systems as well as back-end operational systems.

    The emergence of FinTech’s has captured a large share of the market in the banking revenue pools. In response we are reinventing our digital trade strategy to compete with the FinTechs to enable the bank to stay relevant and meet the demands of the digital future.

     

    By introducing agility and removing the complexity of legacy systems we are enabling our various Trade Channels to be on the forefront of the banking digital age in addition to improving the way transactions are processed.

     

    We are striving to deliver standardized solutions built on the newest technologies (open-source), (AWS) cloud solutions that will allow cost-effective roll out across the African continent.

    We allow the organization to meet multiple demands for features including but not limited to support bank channels, third party integrations and non-banking channels.      

     

    Key critical requirements:

    • 8+ years’ software development experience

    • Relevant B-Degree in Computer Science preferred but not essential if minimum requirements of experience & practical application is evident

    • Cross-domain knowledge

    • Java 8+

    • Angular 2+

    • Spring Framework 4.0+

    • REST (REpresentative State Transfer)

    • git

     

    Beneficial technical skills:

    • Spring Boot 1+

    • Axon Framework

    • MSSQL

    • CSS

    • Jenkins

    • Docker

    • Kubernetes-based orchestration (e.g. Openshift, Rancher)

     

    Methodologies required:

    • Agile (Scrum, Kanban or XP)

     

    Beneficial:

    • AWS

    • DDD (Domain-Driven Design)

    • CQRS (Command-Query Responsibility Segregation)

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical leadership to the team.  

    • Guide team on technology choices.    

    • Liaise with the lead solution architect to ensure system design and code aligns with architecture.  

    • Implement/improve DevSecOps strategy for the team.  

    • Determine coding standards and best practices for the team.

    • Implement/improve CI/CD pipelines with a focus on Continuous Delivery and automated testing.

    • Come up with and implement a cloud migration strategy for the team’s applications. Own the team’s tech backlog, and come up with a technology roadmap, including strategies to make the team’s applications cloud-native if possible and a clear upgrade strategy to keep the applications(s) current.

    • Provide third-level production support (DevOps environment).

    • Develop and unit test functionality as required by business.

    • Mentor intermediate and junior team members.

    • Peer-review code changes.

    • Assist product owners and business analysts with the technical aspects of proposed changes and requirements.

    • Provide estimates for proposed changes.

    • Follow the bank’s governance processes in order to deploy changes to production.

    • Attend daily standups.

    Education

    Bachelor's Degree: Information Technology
