• The purpose of the role is to build and lead a team of senior professionals (engineers and other specialists) to develop and deliver Projects and other enabling activities as required. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivery, through the Pre-Feasibility Feasibility and Execution phases, of HMM Projects in accordance with the South32 Capital Investment Standards; the South32 Project Management Standard and Framework; and, the approved project metrics and other requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH in Geoscience/Mining/Metallurgy/Engineering together with a minimum of 7 years of experience in major project development and execution in primary industry of which at least 5 years in a managerial capacity;

• Broad exposure to operating facilities and mines or other major industrial undertakings is essential;
• Broad exposure to complex operating environments in line management as well as functional roles is essential;
• Experience in the safe and successful development and delivery of projects is essential:
• Experience in the development and delivery of discipline engineering and project deliverables is essential;
• Experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups is essential.
   

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• To manage the health, safety and environmental compliance aspects of the project(s) ensuring that all new items of plant and equipment are designed for safety, all work is executed in a well-designed way and consistent with the South32 standards for environmental management;
• Provide leadership, direction, performance management and mentoring to the project team;
• Identification of, and interfacing with, internal and external project stakeholders to clearly understand the business opportunity, the operational opportunities and constraints and the statutory approvals and issues for approval;
• To understand and document project stakeholder’s requirements and manage the project consistent with those requirements;
• To refine the business case for the investment and update the business case progressively as information becomes available through the feasibility phase;
• To work with the Business Evaluation team to develop the project evaluation model;
• To consider all parameters impacting the project and determine the optimal strategy for project execution ensuring that the project is designed and built to deliver maximum value for the business and the specific requirements of the operation;
• Adhering to South32 guidelines for project management, follow the approval process for funding the project up to the point of submission of the Investment Approval Request to the Board;
• To manage the costs, schedule and quality of works undertaken by the project in accordance with the approved project KPIs;
• To ensure compliance with project reporting and governance requirements.
