    Lecturer (1 Year Fixed-Term Contract) (AC.08.4)

    Brief Description        

    • The Department of Italian Studies is seeking to make an appointment at the rank of Lecturer on a one-year contract renewable to start in January 2026. We envisage that the successful candidate will play a central role in teaching and research that is both theoretically innovative and relevant to media studies in South Africa, in Africa, and globally.

    Requirements:

    • Candidates should hold at least a Master degree in Italian studies and have experience in teaching Italian language as a foreign language. Experience in teaching Italian literature, culture and/or cinema will be a plus. Experience of teaching Italian language and culture at a Higher Education Institution in South Africa will be desirable. 

    Responsibilities:

    • The successful candidate will be a key member of our Italian team, working with colleagues to maintain and enhance our successful and innovative delivery of Italian language and culture teaching at undergraduate level, and to contribute to ongoing departmental and School initiatives in language teaching and learning.
    • The successful candidate will be required to offer wide-ranging teaching across all years of study; to implement communicative, student-centred methodologies to facilitate students’ development and growth; to carry out administrative duties for the department; and to take part in the intellectual and public life of the university.
