Coordinate, manage and administer the work of the Disability Rights Unit.
Identify, initiate and manage suitable advocacy and litigation cases for the Disability Rights Unit.
Coordinate the drafting of policy documents for the Disability Rights Unit’s advocacy work.
Generate funds for the Disability Rights Unit.
Link and collaborate with the different branches of the legal profession, NGO and the South African Human Rights Commission in the Free State and nationally concerning disability rights advocacy and legal work.
Contribute to the research/publication output of the Free State Centre for Human Rights (FSCHR) by publishing in accredited scholarly journals and books.
Present papers at scholarly conferences in the field of disability rights.
Supervise postgraduate students in the FSCHR.
Teach in the FSCHR’s Interdisciplinary master’s degree in Human Rights.
Collaborate with other entities within the UFS on disability rights-related initiatives.
Inherent requirements:
A doctoral degree in Law or related discipline on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment)
or
Master’s degree in law or related discipline on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in Law or related discipline MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
A good academic record.
Proven experience in teaching.
Recommendations:
Experience in fund-raising in the public interest litigation field.
Experience in academic and practical work concerning disability rights.
Experience in project management in civil society and/or the academy.
Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.
Proven experience in postgraduate student supervision.
