    Lecturer Human Movement Science

    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

    • The Department of Human Movement Science is a well-established academic department housed in a state-of-the-art building. It has a recognized Biokinetics and Sport Science Unit (BSSU) and is an integral part of the Madibaz High Performance Complex. The Department is looking for a qualified sport scientist with in-depth knowledge in the field of sport psychology for high performance coaching. The incumbent will be expected to facilitate and administer the learning of students in modules presented at undergraduate
    • and postgraduate level, to do research, to contribute to community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the Department and the University.

    KEYPERFORMANCEAREAS

    • Lecture in the various Human Movement Science under- and postgraduate programs and taking responsibility for, amongst others, but not necessarily limited to the following focus areas: sport psychology, game analysis, coaching science, sport science for high performance coaching
    • Be responsible for all academic related activities, including compiling course guides, manuals, lecture notes, assessments, and other related activities
    • Assist and be involved with research in the department and supervision of undergraduate and post- graduate students in research
    • Assist and conduct academic and operational administration
    • Identify students at risk, develop intervention strategies and monitor student progress
    • Participate in community engagement and service learning

    CORECOMPETENCIES

    • Good knowledge of the theory and applications of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the areas of sport psychology, game analysis, coaching science, and sport science in high performance coaching
    • Experience in facilitating learning at a tertiary level
    • Experience in the utilization of specialized sport science equipment and software would be advantageous
    • Proven ability to facilitate learning of students in theoretical and practical components of Human Movement Science
    • Ability to compile student guides and manuals
    • Good administrative skills
    • Ability to contribute to community engagement and service learning
    • Ability to conduct research, publish, as well as present findings at conferences
    • Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research
    • Ability to work as part of a team in meeting the inter and multidisciplinary nature of the discipline

     
    REQUIREMENTS

    To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have the following: Qualification

    • Be in possession of a Master’s degree in Human Movement Science (or equivalent)

    Experience

    • Have two years’ experience in teaching/lecturing/research at university level in the relevant area of Human Movement Science
    • Provide evidence of experience in the utilization of specialized laboratory equipment and software would be advantageous

    Research

    • The publication of a journal article(s) or a conference presentation would be s t r o n g recommendation

    Skills

    • Have excellent and proven interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and the public Have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point, Teams, Outlook) and a Learning Management Software (Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai)
