Lecturer in Urban and Regional Planning at Stellenbosch University

Duties:

• Urban and regional planning academic programme development and renewal;
• Postgraduate teaching in urban and regional planning;
• Postgraduate supervision of urban and regional planning research;
• Managing a productive research programme in urban and regional plan
• Publication of research results in accredited journals, and presenting results at conferences;
• Actively participating in all departmental activities and research projects;
• Academic interaction with the planning industry;
• Actively participating in community interaction initiatives.

Job Requirements:

• In possession of, or registered for, a PhD in urban and regional planning or a related field at the time of application;
• Registered, or registrable, as a professional planner with SACPLAN;
• Demonstrable knowledge of urban and regional planning processes and legislation in South Africa;
• Competency in geographic information systems and spatial statistics;
• Evidence of international or national conference presentations;
• Excellent verbal and writing skills in English.

Recommendation

• Peer-reviewed articles as first author or co-author in accredited journals on a research topic relevant to the post;
• Knowledge of SACPLAN guidelines for competencies and standards for curricula development;
• Practical experience in the preparation, implementation and/or evaluation of land development applications, land use schemes, and spatial development frameworks;
• Potential to secure research funding;
• Competencies in general organisational skills.
