    Lecturer: Pharmacy

    Core purpose of the job:

    • Facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills by undergraduate pharmacy students in order for them to function effectively within the field of Pharmacy
    • Develop and facilitate the acquisition of research knowledge and skills amongst undergraduate B.Pharm and postgraduate students 
    • Conduct and lead research in the Pharmacy Department at the University. 

     

    Key performance areas:

    • Facilitate learning and teaching in the area of Pharmacy (preference will be granted to pharmacy practice/clinical pharmacy candidature)
    • Development of curricula and learning material in pharmacy including pharmacy practice or clinical pharmacy
    • Participate in academic engagement with stakeholders within Pharmacy
    • Conducting and publishing research in Pharmacy
    • Supervision of postgraduate students in Pharmacy
    • Presentation and development of postgraduate programmes in Pharmacy
    • Develop and conduct short learning programmes and/or personal development activities on behalf of the Department of Pharmacy
    • Facilitate the application for, and administration of, teaching and/or research grants
    • Interact with relevant pharmaceutical stakeholders
    • Perform academic administration
    • Fulfil other duties pertaining to the organisation and administration of the Pharmacy Department.

     

    Core competencies:

    • An in-depth knowledge of the theory and application of pharmacy (preferably with specific expert knowledge and/or experience of pharmacy/clinical practice in a primary healthcare setting or hospital environment)
    • Expertise in, or have the potential to facilitate, at pharmacy support personnel level, learning and teaching
    • Experience in, or have the potential to develop curricula and learning material in the areas of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy
    • Proven record in, or the potential to participate in Pharmacy profession and stakeholder liaison and networking
    • Experience in, or have awareness of, the implementation of a blended learning approach
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Excellent computer skills.

     

    Minimum requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Pharmacy
    • One to two years’ relevant lecturing and/or related working experience
    • Professional registration as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council.
