    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP 11)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbents will be required to:

    • Participate in a formal development programme aimed at strengthening their aspirations and skills as researchers and lecturers;
    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; 
    • Mentor and supervise postgraduate students;
    • Conduct collaborative research in their research specialisation areas;
    • Play an active role as academics, nationally and internationally;
    • Complete PhD studies in instances where these have not yet been completed; and 
    • Assume limited administration responsibilities in their departments.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Lecturer

    • A Master’s degree with a 70% average mark in the relevant discipline;
    • Illustrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level; and 
    • Illustrate strong potential to become an established researcher.

    Senior Lecturer

    • A relevant doctoral degree;
    • Proven teaching experience;
    • Proven record of publications;
    • Proven record of supervision of postgraduate students to completion.
    • For Veterinary Epidemiology: A Master’s degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Science, Animal Health Economics, Ecology, Biostatistics, or other discipline directly relevant to Veterinary Epidemiology.
    • For Architecture: A Professional Master’s degree in Architecture OR a five-year BArch and a relevant Master’s degree / A Doctoral degree in Architecture or related field and an interest in the Departmental research focus areas of Circular Construction, Building Integrated Modelling and Computational Design.
    • For Diagnostic Radiography: A Masters’ degree in Diagnostic Radiography or related Health Sciences / A Doctoral degree in Diagnostic Radiography or related Health Sciences doctoral degree, and an active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner.
    • For Audiology: A Master’s degree in Audiology / A Doctoral degree in Audiology, evidence of a publication record, and an active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
    • For Legal Pluralism Indigenous Law & Digital Legal Transformation (Private Law): A Master’s degree in Legal Pluralism (Indigenous Law and Digital Legal Transformation) or a relevant discipline / A Doctoral degree in Legal Pluralism (Indigenous Law and Digital Legal Transformation) or a relevant discipline.

    RECOMMENDATIONS:

    • Good communication skills;
    • Interpersonal and mentoring skills;
    • Leadership potential;
    • Experience in interdisciplinary, collaborative research;
    • Proven record of national and international teamwork;
    • Some first author publications in peer-reviewed journals; and 
    • One-year teaching/tutoring and research experience at undergraduate/postgraduate levels (lecturer).
