    Legal Counsel

    Description of the role:
    Specifically, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For The Following
    An in-house legal counsel is needed to oversee and be responsible for all legal and compliance matters concerning P&G’s day-to-day operations in Southern Africa. The candidate will be responsible to provide legal support to one or more business units of the P&G Group in Southern Africa.

    • Providing guidance on industry specific laws and ensuring all compliances are met
    • Overseeing the drafting and negotiating of all applicable commercial agreements across the business with a focus on assisting our Sales Department in the vetting and conclusion of contracts with P&G’s key customers
    • Overseeing and providing strategic direction over litigation matters (including advertising complaints and labour disputes);
    • Providing legal support for new product development and in-market execution
    • Collaborating with P&G’s Compliance Department for the development and implementation of and compliance with processes, policies and training, including those related to the applicable corruption laws
    • Supporting all legal initiatives related to the protection against counterfeit goods
    • Working closely with P&G’s internal Government Relations Department
    • Partnering with other functions such as Medical, Regulatory, HR, Sales, Marketing, Distribution & R&D on specific legal issues.

    Requirements (skills / experiences) for the role:

    • The candidate must be an admitted attorney with previous work experience. The candidate should have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The candidate will be expected to oversee and engage with outside counsel, particularly in relation litigation and other major projects. Experience in competition and corporate commercial law is essential. A working knowledge of labour and advertising law is beneficial.

    Qualifications:

    • holds a degree in Law (An LLB degree) and is an admitted attorney
    • minimum of 2 years and maximum of 5 years practical legal experience with a reputable law firm or in the legal department of a large multinational corporation in the pharma or FMCG industry
    • is fluent in English, both verbal and written
    • has strong leadership profile and passion to make a difference
    • has excellent problem solving and team collaboration skills
    • is adaptable, not afraid of working outside comfort zones, and enjoys working as part of an international network
    • An undergraduate commercial degree is beneficial.
