    Logistics Planner

    Purpose Of The Job

    • To prepare both the short term and longer term national and regional supply plans in order to optimize customer service at minimal cost of transport and storage. To manage stock levels in primarily Vector network (Midrand and coastal Distribution Centres) to meet the target stock holding by Stock-Keeping Unit (SKU). This will include working closely with the Production plants / Customers supply planners and demand planning team to proactively ensure that there are no interruptions in supply and 96% service levels are maintained.


    Key Performance Areas

    Strategic Planning:

    • Execute the degree of forward planning (18 month rolling) as defined by management.

    Supply Planning:

    • Develop the supply strategy and process for all SKU across the Retail and Food Service networks. Currently Vector supplied (50%) of the supply chain.
    • Identify exceptions where supply does not satisfy demand or where supply exceeds demand.
    • Develop alternate scenarios to address exceptions by closing the gap between supply and demand.
    • Develop the warehouse space requirements plan for the next 12 months on a rolling weekly basis and manage the accuracy thereof.
    • Work closely with the warehousing and transport-planning teams to ensure that there is sufficient capacity to meet the national demand and supply requirements.

    Short Term Supply Planning:

    • Review demand plan (demand forecasts and actual orders) and stock cover (days) requirements on a weekly (and daily when stock shortages are experienced) basis across all depots and stock holding positions.

    Stock Management:

    • Calculate the target stock levels (days cover) by SKU by obtaining and using the relevant information to input in the inventory optimization model. (E.g. forecast accuracy, factory reliability, production cycle times, order lead time, customer service levels).
    • Propose stock level targets for agreement by the Outbound Supply Chain Planning management team (for both operational planning and budgeting processes) for both national and regional levels (for all stock holding points).
    • Review stock targets on a periodic basis (usually quarterly).
    • Make appropriate recommendation on stock where days cover either exceed maximum or are below minimum covers. Working closely with demand planner
    • Proactively manage stock age, slow moving and obsolete stock across all stock holding points and make recommendations to clear stock.
    • Compile the warehouse capacity plans.

    Sales and Operations Planning:

    • Develop the overall supply plan that will be used as input into the company-wide Standard Operating Procedures (S&OP) process.
    • Identify gaps and opportunities and make appropriate recommendations to close these with the McCain Operations Manager, Demand Planners and Third Party Logistics (3PL).
    • Consolidate the supply planning packs required for the various S&OP meetings

    Team Coordination:

    • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning, prioritizing and self-development.
    • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained. Holding 3PL SLA (Service Level Agreements) accountable.
    • Manage colleagues and clients’ expectations and communicate appropriately.
    • Demonstrate willingness to help others and “go the extra mile” to meet team targets and objectives.
    • Champion training and development of self through utilising available training opportunities or contributing to the development of new training solutions
    • Participate in regular performance appraisals and ensure that own targets and goals are clear and achievable.



    Requirements

    • National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
    • Tertiary Diploma/Degree in finance, commercial, logistics or equivalent. Min 3 years.
    • 7 Years previous in Inventory Planning and co-ordination of supply chain with work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
