Maintenance Supervisor Salvage Yard - Steelpoort at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To coordinate the collection and disposal of all waste, domestic and hazardous. The collection of all ferrous as well as non-ferrous scrap metals and the selling of these metals as well as the refurbishment of all repairable items in order to generate a consistent income stream.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY 

• Ensure SHEQ compliance through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

CUSTOMERS

• Ensure Customer Satisfaction

BUSINESS PROCESSES

• Establish a fully functional effective salvage yard.
• Measure and report on cost savings achieved monthly.
• Report on waste disposal volumes as per the sustainability report.
• Establish and manage SMMEs relating to the salvage processes.
• Identify projects to further cost savings and add value to the operation.
• Maximise the profitability of the salvage yard.
• Ensure general maintenance and refurbishment of salvaged items.
• Carry out projects required by Management from time to time.
• Enhance salvage yard systems.
• Ensure adherence to environmental legislation.
• Manage and control salvage yard contractors.
• Manage and oversee Salvage Yard supervisors.
• Manage internal and external scrap tender processes.
• Drive safety in all areas of responsibility in accordance with ECM SHEQ policies.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum qualifications:

• Grade 12
• Recognised engineering trade certificate and/or Shift Supervisor Certificate

Additional qualifications:

• Computer Literate
• Good Housekeeping

Additional requirements:

• Medical fitness as per organisational requirements
• Own roadworthy vehicle and driver’s license

Minimum Experience:

• 5 years mechanical artisan experience
