    Manager: Faculty Accountants

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

    • Supporting the Deputy Director: Budget Control in executing the Sectional strategy and achieving all financial and service targets for the unit;
    • Providing direction and effective management of faculty accountants;
    • Resolving escalated queries from faculties and support service staff;
    • Managing the key performance indicators associated with the financial accounting (Faculty or Support Services Department);
    • Overseeing that annual and monthly reports are submitted to the Deputy Director: Budget Control;
    • Reviewing and approval of high-risk journals;
    • Identifying risk areas within the Budget Control Division;
    • Providing support relating to budgets for the Faculty/Support Service;
    • Preparing monthly management information on the University’s finances;
    • Reviewing the financial reports on special projects and regulatory reporting requirements e.g. DHET / Federal Funding etc;
    • Reviewing internal controls, improving existing financial policies and procedures, and preparing new ones based on risk assessment and audit recommendations;
    • Reviewing internal audit reports, preparing responses and ensuring implementation of recommendations;
    • Preparing Budget Control sections on audit files and liaising with external auditors;
    • Promoting staff development (provide training and staff evaluations);
    • Providing access to cost centres for users based on the delegation policy;
    • Reviewing and approving foreign EFT payments;
    • Responsible for year-end closing procedures for Budget Control.
       

    Minimum Requirements

    • Chartered Accountant (SA);
    • Seven years relevant work experience (including 3 years articles) with proven experience in and knowledge of, inter alia:
    • Budget planning and control functions;
    • International Reporting Standards;
    • Compilation of financial statements;
    • Mainframe and/or ERP systems;
    • Project management.
    • Three years’ working experience in managing staff within a medium to large organisation.

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • Master’s degree in financial management, accounting or auditing;
    • Three years working experience in a management role within a higher education environment;
    • Three years working experience in the use of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system (PeopleSoft).
