Manager, Investor Relations at Exxaro Resources

PURPOSE:

• To foster an environment which enables investors and other stakeholders to understand why Exxaro shares are the preferred shares to invest in, relative to industry peers, by setting a high quality, long- term vision for the Investor Relations function.
• Facilitate understanding of Exxaro’s investment thesis and long-term value proposition to attract new investors and retain existing investors and financial stakeholders by sharing a compelling and accurate message about Exxaro’s operational, financial performance and growth prospects
• Support the group investor relations strategy development and execution.
• Strategic investor community liaison to engage with existing and potential investors to facilitate enhanced understanding of Exxaro’s fair valuation.
• Bridging the gap between the executive management team and investors by prioritising and understanding investors’ priorities and concerns, particularly regarding Exxaro’s strategic direction, capital allocation, operational and financial performance, to create shareholder value.
• Development of a coherent and holistic investment thesis.
• Developing and maintaining Exxaro’s valuation model through collaboration with Finance.
• Accountable for shareholder financial and performance engagement through the development of investor presentations and other reports.
• Keeping abreast of global mining and energy industry and market developments and research as well as environmental, social and governance developments, research, trends and news and other media developments in the mining, energy, macroeconomic and political sectors and using this information to improve the company's strategic positioning, investor facing communication/resources to preserve and enhance shareholder value to attract investors and other stakeholders
• Analysing the risks associated with a poor/ineffective relationships with investors to mitigating these risks through the development of focused investor relations engagement plans.
• Work with other departments within the company (e.g., Operations, Marketing, HR, Finance, Sustainable Impact) to compile insightful investor reports and presentations which create comfort in the executive management’s ability to preserve and enhance shareholder value.
• Build strong, transparent, long-term relationship of trust with investors through feedback/query management, and insightful and accurate reporting to enable the investor community to invest in and work with Exxaro.
• Understanding of macroeconomics, capital markets, competitor activities, industry dynamics, and customer trends to inform the Exxaro strategy, investor relations strategy and communications strategy.
• Supporting the Manager Communications, Public and Media Relations through research, deep analysis, insights and strategic thinking so that Exxaro’s messaging is fact-based and coherent with the overall group strategy and the communications strategy.
• Set, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of the investor relations strategies implemented.
• Generate investor insights and combine them with market intelligence to enable strategic decision making.

EXPERIENCE: 

• 10 years Investor relations and/or related business or financial roles with proven experience in managing relationships with the investor community (investors and analysts).

Duties & Responsibilities:

Brand management and strategic positioning:

• Work with senior management in the development and execution of investor relations strategies that support the company’s goals and enhance its reputation in the financial community
• Manage investor inquiries to ensure a positive investor experience
• Support the executive team and anyone speaking on behalf of Exxaro to relay the Exxaro message with clarity, coherence, and conviction by collaborating with the Investor Relations function, conducting research, and writing speaker notes and scripts to enable a single united voice from Exxaro
• Assess and recommend corporate sponsorships, advertising, brand- building opportunities
• Propose enhancements and/or changes to corporate strategy based on engagements and feedback from investors
• Monitor investor sentiment and proactively protect and enhance Exxaro corporate reputation and brand
• Scan, and monitor information sources to track investor related issues as they arise
• Ensure consistent messaging in all investor facing communications, presentation and reports including integrated reports and supporting documentation
• Protect and enhance the organization's reputation and brand through positive, tailored storytelling and image-building that connects Exxaro with its investors
• Monitor general financial and industry trends and developments to identify opportunities and potential threats

Corporate Communications Strategy Execution    

• Articulate, and lead the execution of the investor relations strategy, delivering tangible results to build relationships with financial investors/analysts/shareholders, answer their inquiries about the company, help them understand the financial performance and strategy.
• Prepare and distribute financial reports including earnings releases, annual reports and other relevant financial disclosures to investors/analyst/shareholders to create a clear, compelling, and coherent message so that they want to invest in Exxaro.
• Plan, coordinate, and proactively manage and participate in meetings, conferences, investor roadshows, capital markets and strategy days to present the company’s financial results and strategy to investors/analyst/shareholders aligned with the annual investor relations plan, ensuring they are completed timeously and meet the stated strategic objectives, and continuously updating the plan with new business requirements and investor feedback to strengthen and preserve the Exxaro reputation
• Develop and implement robust data analysis capabilities for proactive investor sentiment and perceptions management
• Develop a broader data and insights strategy which will inform what type of data is collected, analysed, and used to develop meaningful insights which can be actioned, to enhance investors’ understanding of Exxaro value proposition
• Collaborate with all corporate functions in the development of the Exxaro investment thesis and ensure that investors’ priorities, concerns and opportunities identified are addressed
• Own and management Exxaro shareholder register and shareholder analysis
• Work closely with Manager Communications, Public and Media Relations to ensure that investor facing presentation and reports are impactful
• Develop, apply, share, and embed investor relations best practices
• Research and market analysis including industry trends, competitor activities, changes in the financial markets that may impact the company’s stock performance
• Collaborate with Manager Communications, Public and Media Relations to ensure that the executive team and anyone speaking on behalf of Exxaro relays the Exxaro message with clarity, coherence, and conviction
• Ensure that the investor relations part of the website is always updated, contains relevant information, and is easily accessible for investors
• Identify and manage group investor relations risks
• Demonstrate measurable results and impact toward business objectives through meaningful metrics and reporting

•  Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent and culture of team to improve investor relations to enable successful execution of the investor relations strategy
• Ensure clear communication of individual, divisional and business targets and objectives and drive performance towards their fulfilment

• Implement governance systems and processes to drive and facilitate corporate communication
• Develop, implement and continuously improve all investor relations policies and procedures
• Provide assurance regarding the application of investor relations standards, processes, and best practices
• Ensure all communications, reports and initiatives are delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements and Corporate Communications policies, guidelines, procedures etc.
• Adhere to sound corporate governance principles and address discrepancies
• Maintain transparency and adherence to best practices

Investor relations strategy development:    

• Articulate and maintain the Group’s investor relations strategy clearly aligning the organisational objectives with the investor (including analysts and shareholders) relations strategic objectives
• Continuously test alignment of the investor relations strategy  with the organisational priorities, investor priorities, concerns and requests, and market opportunities
• Collaborate with Corporate Finance, Corporate Secretariate and other functions to ensure that the strategic objectives of the company align and are complementary with the investor relations strategies
• Develop an annual investor engagement plan, linked to the investor relations strategy, encompassing a view of the proactive scheduled engagements, content to be presented, and individuals needed to disseminate / execute the plan
