    Master Electrician

    Job Description:

    As our Master Electrician your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    Safety, Health, and Environment

    • Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
    • Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
    • "Exemplify" all relevant safety standards and procedures as a positive example for learners to follow and prioritise in their work practices.
    • Active participation in SLAMs, HPH, relevant Risk Assessments, and close-out of Safet Actions.
    • Performance and Delivery

    Electrical Oversight:

    • Code Compliance: Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations. Stay updated on code changes and apply them to projects.
    • Project Planning and Design: Develop plans and blueprints for electrical projects, including new installations, renovations, or upgrades. Collaborate with architects and other professionals in project planning.
    • Installation and Wiring: Oversee the installation of electrical systems, including wiring, outlets, switches, and fixtures. Ensure that installations meet safety standards and project specifications.
    • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose electrical issues, faults, or malfunctions in existing systems. Perform repairs or replacements of faulty components to restore functionality.
    • Equipment Maintenance: Implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and equipment to extend lifespan and prevent unexpected failures.
    • Supervision and Training: Supervise and guide electrical teams, apprentices, or junior electricians. Share knowledge and mentor less experienced professionals.
    • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and safety of electrical installations and repairs. Conduct inspections to verify compliance with standards and specifications.

    The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities

    • Blueprint Reading: Interpret and read electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project requirements and specifications.
    • Estimation and Cost Control: Provide accurate cost estimates for electrical projects, including materials, labour, and equipment. Monitor project budgets and control costs throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their electrical needs, preferences, and expectations. Provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or questions.
    • Safety Oversight: Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for the electrical team and other workers on the job site.
    • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to electrical emergencies, such as power outages or system failures. Diagnose and resolve issues efficiently to minimise downtime.
    • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all electrical work, including plans, specifications, permits, and inspection reports. Ensure documentation complies with regulatory requirements.
    • Testing and Certification: Conduct tests and inspections to verify the proper functioning of electrical systems. Obtain and ensure the renewal of necessary certifications and licenses.

    Continuous improvement:

    • Stay informed about advancements in electrical technology, safety practices, and industry trends. Pursue continuing education and professional development to maintain and expand knowledge.
    • Provides leadership on reporting of events and hazards.

    Artisan Training, Development and Assessment:

    • Identify and utilise on-the-job learning opportunities to achieve required competency levels.
    • Check the quality of work done by Artisans and provide training and development to address deficiencies.
    • Give feedback to the supervisor to ensure Artisan's competence.
    • Advise concerned parties proactively on maintenance-related matters aligned with best practices and within agreed-upon timeframes to avoid possible problems.
    • Ensure that learners under supervision adhere to all relevant safety standards and procedures.
    • Assist artisans with troubleshooting more complex issues in the plant area.
    • Assistance and Practices
    • Assist supervisor and co-workers when required within company policies, procedures, and guidelines to enhance teamwork objectives.
    • Provide advice in all maintenance-related matters and tactics to concerned parties proactively aligned with best practices and within agreed-upon timeframes to avoid possible problems and uplift the competence-base.
    • This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band J3.1 level reporting to the Engineering Supervisor Jig Crushing Electrical

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical,
    • Engineering Studies (Electrical) (NQF4)
    • Trade Certificate as an Electrician
    • MV/HV Switching Certificate 3.3kV
    • 11KV Switching (Advantageous)
    • SA Drivers License

    Technical Knowledge

    • Possessing 5 years of experience as an Electrician.
    • Demonstrating awareness of safety standards.
    • Familiarity with company policies and procedures.
    • Understand the specific functionality of the discipline's equipment, tools, and machinery.
    • Competence in technical assessment.
