Mechanical Design Engineer at DRA Global

Technical expertise:

• Competent in the fundamentals of Mechanical Design.
• Competent in performing general engineering designs and calculations.
• Understanding of industry equipment and fabrication processes.
• Advanced computer literacy including engineering level programming.
• Proficient in using / learning a wide range of engineering software packages.

Operational:

• Perform engineering calculations, analysis and design using governing codes and standards for mechanical related disciplines.
• Preparation of functional and detail designs.
• Development of design programs / calculators.
• Provide consultation to the Project Teams.
• Perform on-site commissioning assistance, troubleshooting and design audits.
• Supervise draughting teams. 
• Ensure that relevant procedures and standards are complied with.
• Assist with the commissioning of the assigned packages in accordance with the project & vendor specifications.
• Ensure that technical reports are structured, accurate, complete and well presented.
• Display proactive communication with project and design teams with respect to discipline interface and problem solving.
• Develop and / or provide input into Engineering Design Criteria.
• Develop engineering designs to be fit for purpose.
• Develop engineering designs aligned with the project budget and quantities.
• Evaluates customer specifications, scopes and project estimates for mechanical design requirements.
• Review design drawings to ensure compliance to design.
• Provide technical input into preparation of tender documents.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with suppliers, site supervisors or project teams.

Budget Management

• Manage personal and design/draughting budget man-hours.
• Ensure designs produced are in accordance with project budget and quantities.
• Ensure proper change management procedure is adhered to.

Qualifications and experience:      

• BSc Eng or B Eng essential
• Professional Registration (ECSA) advantageous
• 2-4 years Mechanical Engineering and Design within a related industry

Job Related Knowledge Required:

• Competent in the fundamentals of Mechanical Design is essential
• Sound technical knowledge in a multi-discipline environment is essential
• Worked within an EPCM/Mining environment is essential
• Knowledge of specific department ie: Design Office is essential
• Knowledge of applicable governing codes and standards will be advantageous
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 will be advantageous
• BMH / Mining / Heavy Industry design experience will be advantageous
• Proficient in typical mechanical engineering software packages is essential
• Automated / Parametric Modelling (Inventor or equivalent) will be advantageous
