    Medical Orthotist & Prosthetist

    Requirements :

    • Prosthetist. Appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the HPCSA as an independent practitioner. Registration with the HPCSA as a independent practitioner.
    • No experience required after registration with the HPCSA in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed Community Service, as required in South Africa.
    • One-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Orthotist and Prosthetist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
    • The following will be an added advantage: Voluntary Orthotist and Prosthetist practice experience after registration. Must have driver’s licence. Computer skills, interpersonal skills and time management skills.

    Duties :

    • Consultation of patient in collaboration with multi/ interdisciplinary team members. Conducting clinical assessment of patient in all wards including ICU wards and OPD. Providing orthotic/ prosthetic (O/P) diagnosis.
    • Prescription of O/P devises. Deigning and measuring of O/P devises. Manufacturing and fitting of O/P devices. Conducting patient treatment follow up evaluation. Providing daily, weekly and monthly reports on O/P patient care. Participate in O/P student and in-service trainings.
    • Participate in self-continuous training and development and comply with HPCSA CPD points. Carry out duties delegated by supervisor and manager. Assist in team building to improve the quality of work relations.
    • Participate in inventory control. Assist to report malfunctioning machine and equipment for maintenance. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
    • Doing outreach within CMJAH cluster. To promote medical orthotist and prosthetics services in line with the health awareness calendar. Referral of clients to the appropriate level of care where there is Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics service control as per protocol. To participate in quality assurance audits and research. Have sound knowledge of public service Act, regulations and policies. Be able to communicate effectively.
