An appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Physicist. Registration with a Professional Council: Registration with the HPCSA for 2025/2026 as a Medical Physicist.
Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Physicist. Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work after hours.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Skills pertaining to the scope of the profession of Medical Physicist. Manage the medical physics service for the nuclear medicine division. Must be able to work independently and have the skills to complete projects on time. Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Thorough knowledge of nuclear medicine physics and techniques, including internal dosimetry. Understand the physics of nuclear medicine equipment. Knowledge of computers and software used in nuclear medicine. Knowledge of the statutory regulations regarding the medical use of ionizing radiation, as well as radionuclides. Thorough understanding of physics concepts and their link to medical applications.
Duties :
Responsibility for the management of the dosimetry, quality assurance and radiation protection functions of Medical Physics in the Division of Nuclear Medicine, including regulatory compliance. Active participation in the routine execution of clinically related medical physics tasks also supplies physics support in the Division of Radiology.
Assistance with equipment tender preparation, evaluation and acceptance. Understand and use software packages for gamma cameras and PET reconstruction, responsible for QA on the divisional network between imaging systems, and participation in the management team of the Division of Nuclear Medicine. Assistance with lecturing in the teaching and training programme of the Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine Divisions. Active participation and assistance with the management of the research and development programme of the Medical Physics Division.
