    Medical Registrar - Orthopaedics

    Requirements :

    • MBCHB or equivalent. Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Current Registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner.
    • Primaries in Orthopaedic and Intermediate will be an added advantage.
    • No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner.

    Duties :

    • Patient Care: Offer comprehensive medical care to Orthopaedic/Hand and Microsurgery Patients-General/Subspecialties/Outpatients and Inpatients. Be able to deal with referrals and transfers from level 1, 2 and 3 facilities from the Hospital drainage Area.
    • Participate in the daily ward rounds in the Orthopaedic wards, level 1 (problems) and daily inpatient and outpatient care. See consultations from other departments.
    • Writing meticulous discharge summaries for all patients. Run Orthopaedic outpatient and sub-specialty clinics. Up-referral of properly worked-up, appropriate patients to sub-specialties.
    • Down-referral of all stable patients to level 1 clinics. Teaching: Formal training of Junior Medical Officers, Registrars, Orthopaedic/ Orthopaedic/Hand and Microsurgery students and allied health workers.
    • Mentoring of Staff (Junior Orthopaedic Officers, Registrars, and Nurses) in the Orthopaedic Wards and Clinics and from facilities that refer to DGMAH. Participate in all academic and clinical meetings of Orthopaedic Surgery Department. Participate in departmental research activities.
    • Accepting responsibility for continuous professional development to keep up to date with developments in different units in Orthopaedic Surgery. Also, participate in the outreach programmes for Level 2 and 3 Hospitals. Any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.
