Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. MBBCh/ MBCHB, Medical Specialist in Anesthesia– MMED Anesthesia and FCOG and active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
Grade 1- experience not applicable, registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
Grade 2- 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia. Grade 3- 10 years’.
Inherent requirements of the job: Participate in the after-hours call system (Commuted overtime is compulsory).
Knowledge, Skills, Attributes and Abilities:
sound clinical knowledge and experience in Anesthesia.
Knowledge of current Health and Public Service Legislation, Regulations and Policies.
Knowledge of Medical Ethics, knowledge of budget control.
Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to supervise, train and mentor medical officers and other junior members of staff.
Duties :
To administer and oversee the administration of Anesthesia at all levels and service points. Providing clinical services in Anesthesia subspecialties as determined by the department.
Participate and assist in teaching and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Perform administrative duties as delegated by the Head of Department. Conduct clinical research / audits and/ or participate in the research programs in the department and supervise MMed research studies.
