An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine (FCP(SA) and MMed).
Successful candidates must be adaptable, disciplined, and self-confident.
The candidate must be able to work independently and under pressure and beyond normal working hours and work with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
An interest in infectious diseases or cardiology will be a plus.
Duties :
The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing patient care in the department's various wards and outpatients. This will include appropriate cost-effective use of investigations, prompt and accurate diagnosis, and overseeing the treatment of patients by junior doctors.
The incumbent will also be expected to improve the quality of care by identifying problem areas and working as a team, to overcome these hurdles. Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and students are also expected.
Commuted overtime and rendering of after-hour (night, weekend, and public holiday) duties to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients is compulsory. Attendance of various administrative meetings such as mortality meetings and completing medico-legal documents timeously (e.g., Death certificates) is expected. Participation in the academic program in the hospital is mandatory. The incumbent will also need to ensure proper and accurate record-keeping as legally and ethically required.
Reporting to the head of department (HOD) on service delivery, clinical audits, and where necessary quality improvement plans. Assist the HOD to monitor, implement and adhere to the compliance to National Core Standards within the department. The incumbent may also need to assist with specific outreach programs and assist the HOD/HCU with administration responsibilities.
