National Senior Certificate/ Matric and MBCHB or equivalent qualification and FCOG (SA) or equivalent that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and current annual registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. Significant experience and interest in Gynaecologic Oncology and the Certificate in Gynaecologic Oncology (COG)(CMSA) with HPCSA registration as sub-specialist is essential for this position. Alternatively, the candidate must be in process of acquiring these.
The candidate will be required to demonstrate teaching experience and research success including publications.
Duties :
Grade 1: None after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology, registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecologist.
Grade 2: Appropriate Qualification in the relevant discipline that allows registration as a Medical Specialist with HPCSA plus 5 years after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. Foreign candidates require 6 years’ relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign health professional council, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service.
Grade 3: Appropriate Qualification in the relevant discipline that allows registration as a Medical Specialist with HPCSA plus 10 years after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist.
Foreign candidates require 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with recognized foreign health professional council, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service
Duties:
Render, organise and oversee inpatient and outpatient services in general gynaecology, gynaecologic oncology, and complicated pregnancy especially abnormal placentation.
Coordinate and render pre-operative, operative and post-operative assessment, management and referral of women with gynaecologic cancer and complex gynaecologic conditions. Ensure compliance with the policies and protocols and better use of resources. Interest and experience in management of transgender patients, intersex conditions, paediatric patients, and critical care will be an advantage.
This is an academic position including significant pre-and post-graduate teaching, training, and research duties. Commuted overtime is compulsory.
