Medical Specialist Psychiatrist Grade 1/2/3 Academic Level Lecturer/Senior/Lecturer
M MED (PSYCH) or FCPSYCH (SA) or equivalent. Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. Psychiatrist is mandatory.
Relevant experience in general adult Psychiatry will be a requirement.
Scientific conference presentation and / or scientific article publication in an accredited journal is a requirement.
Duties :
The post is a joint appointment specialist psychiatry post with Weskoppies Hospital/Gauteng and the School of Medicine Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria.
The main task of the post will be the management and treatment of general adult psychiatric patients, including the related administrative and medico-legal framework. Doing forensic psychiatric observations and testifying in a court of law will be also included, if needed.
Successful candidates will be expected to to be involved in training and teaching of undergraduate, postgraduate students, medical officers and other health care workers. Doing research and supervising research are part of the duties, also.
Duties will include general management and administration appropriate to the post, including involvement in hospital and university related committees.
An interest to further studies in psychiatry sub-specialties and/or relevant postgraduate/doctoral degree studies will be recommended. the incumbent is expected to become involved in outreach services as determined by the department of psychiatry.
