    Medical Specialist Pulmonology (IALCH)

    • SALARY: Grade 1: R1 341 855.00 per annum all-inclusive salary package (excluding commuted overtime)
    • Grade 2: R1 531 032.00 per annum all-inclusive salary package (excluding commuted overtime)
    • Grade 3: R1 773 222.00 per annum all-inclusive salary package (excluding commuted overtime).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • MBCHB Degree; Registration certificate with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Medicine and
    • Current registration card with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Medicine.
    • RECOMMENDATION: Certificate in Pulmonology or equivalent will be considered an advantage.

    Experience:

    • Grade 1: Not applicable.
    • Grade 2: Five (5) years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with HPCSA as a Specialist Physician.
    • Grade 3: Ten (10) years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with HPCSA as a Specialist Physician.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCY REQUIRED:

    • Ability to work under stressful situations. Ability to teach and supervise junior staff.
    • Middle Management Skills.
    • Knowledge of the ethical and academic basics of research principles.
    • Good administrative, decision making and communication skills.

    DUTIES:

    • The candidate will under the direction of the Head Clinical Unit of Pulmonology inter alia: Undertake regular ward rounds, maintain and develop specialist services according to clinical service demands.
    • After hour cover in adult pulmonology and critical care.
    • Consult in specialist adult pulmonology clinics.
    • Provide advice and outreach to second level hospitals.
    • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate training and supervision, and support relevant clinical research and clinical trials in adult pulmonology and critical care at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.
    • Undertake administration of the pulmonology unit and have an input into the unit’s administration at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital
    • Assist with the setting of protocols for management for adult pulmonology and critical care.
    • Assist with the development of clinical audit programmes in the hospitals in the above districts.
    • Develop measures to ensure quality assurance for the adult pulmonology unit.
