Medical Technologist (Fixed Term Contract: 9 Months) Ref: : NICDCDC0224/001-04 at NHLS

Conducts and monitors a variety of diagnostic and surveillance analyses on human test samples to provide accurate laboratory results to aid in and confirm clinical diagnosis 

Key Job Responsibilities: 

• Receive and prepare human specimens prior to analysis to ensure suitability for the specific test to be carried out  Carry out routine testing procedures as per standard procedures on human specimens in order to obtain accurate results under the general supervision of senior qualified staff 
•  Maintain quality assurance processes as per accreditation requirements
•   efficient stock control
•   Undertake troubleshooting where necessary and assist with the maintenance of excel and access databases of test results and patient information 
•   assist in validation of test procedures 
•   assess uncertainty of measurement 
•  Observe health and safety regulations while working to ensure own and others' safety at all times 
•  Input data and verify results on databases and LIMS system for subsequent review and authorization. 

Minimum Requirements and Key Competencies: 

•  National Diploma in Medical Technology or Biomedical Technology or Bachelor of Health Science- Biomedical Technology 
•  HPCSA registration (Virology/Microbiology or Clinical Pathology) as a Medical Technologist 
•   Knowledge of Quality Control Procedures
•   Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations 
•   Knowledge for the usage of specialized instrumentation 
•  Accuracy and organizational skills 
•  Attention to detail striving for an error free standard 
•  Computer literacy 
•  Ability to establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy
