    Senior Communication Manager Ref: NICD0224/001-01

    To develop, direct and oversee all communication strategies and implementation to ensure that the organization meet its public health mandate 

    Key Job Responsibilities:  

    •  Develop and deliver coordinated and integrated communication strategies to align with the organisation’s strategy 
    •   Collaborate with the NICD leadership to develop and implement an organisational communication and market branding strategy, ensuring visibility and impact for the NICD 
    •   Partner with the National and Provincial Departments Communication Teams to ensure that joint initiatives are communicated seamlessly 
    •   Identify, liaise and build strategic relationships with key media stakeholders to establish networks and communication channels for dissemination of information 
    •  Manage the production of relevant publications and related materials from the NICD including the maintenance and updating of the NICD website content, the internal newsletters, annual reports, media releases, promotional material, and guidelines which may require technical input from relevant parties and social media
    •  Develop and cascade and internal communication strategy for employees to communicable organisational plans, priorities and goals to all employees 
    •  Provide communications and engagement expertise, advice and support to NICD staff 
    •   Ensure that the organisation can respond to all communication imperatives 
    •   Develop risk communications strategies, which include outbreak/disaster, for different audiences (health, public and any other communities). Use evidence and data to inform the development of content
    •   Manage human and financial resources in the strategic communication portfolio and report on the performance of the NICD strategic communication group 
    •   Oversee high-profile events at the NICD. 

    Minimum Requirements and Key Competencies: 

    •   Master’s Degree in Communications / Marketing/ Journalism or relevant equivalent qualifications 
    •  8 to 10 years’ experience as both practitioner and manager within a health/scientific environment 
    •   Previous experience in communications IT technology 
    •   Understanding of public health sector 
    •   In-depth vocational knowledge e.g. branding, corporate communication, advocacy, graphics 
    •   Knowledge of project management methodology 
    •   Knowledge of creative computer packages

    Medical Technologist (Fixed Term Contract: 9 Months) Ref: NICDCDC0224/001-04

    Conducts and monitors a variety of diagnostic and surveillance analyses on human test samples to provide accurate laboratory results to aid in and confirm clinical diagnosis 

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • Receive and prepare human specimens prior to analysis to ensure suitability for the specific test to be carried out 
    •  Carry out routine testing procedures as per standard procedures on human specimens in order to obtain accurate results under the general supervision of senior qualified staff 
    •  Maintain quality assurance processes as per accreditation requirements
    •   efficient stock control
    •   Undertake troubleshooting where necessary and assist with the maintenance of excel and access databases of test results and patient information 
    •   assist in validation of test procedures 
    •   assess uncertainty of measurement 
    •  Observe health and safety regulations while working to ensure own and others' safety at all times 
    •  Input data and verify results on databases and LIMS system for subsequent review and authorization. 

    Minimum Requirements and Key Competencies: 

    •  National Diploma in Medical Technology or Biomedical Technology or Bachelor of Health Science- Biomedical Technology 
    •  HPCSA registration (Virology/Microbiology or Clinical Pathology) as a Medical Technologist

    •   Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations 
    •   Knowledge for the usage of specialized instrumentation

    It Support Engineer X2 (Fixed Term Contract: 6 Months) Ref: : NICDCDC1123/001-03

    To install, maintain and support peripheral as well as related computer equipment to ensure service continuity to the NICD/NHLS Users. 

    Key Job Responsibilities:  

    •   Diagnose hardware faults and arrange repairs with the service providers to ensure service continuity with the NHLS 
    •   Install, trouble shoot and configure desktop application network activity and clients software (antivirus software etc.) 
    •  Analyse, review desktop operating system and desktop applications and provide technical assistance to end users on various desktop applications used with the NHLS to ensure optimal performance of systems
    •   Perform administration duties with regard to calls allocated and to record actions taken to ensure proper knowledge base is developed
    •   Adherence to SOP and adopted software standards to ensure standardised IT desktop environment and prevention of other software usage
    •   Performing helpdesk tasks by taking after hours calls 
    •   Installing and support of scanners bar and code printers 
    •   To assist NHLS users with the NHLS Laboratory Information System 
    •  Assist NHLS user with mobile devices 

    Minimum Requirements and Key Competencies: 

    •   3-year diploma or a degree in IT 
    •   ITIL Foundation certification (desirable) 
    •   MCSA Certification (desirable)
    •   2 -3 years in Desktop Hardware and software support in a customer service environment 
    •  1-year mobile device support experience
    •   Knowledge of desktop hardware and software applications 
    •   Basic Knowledge of Mobile Operating Systems 
    •   Knowledge of Desktop Operating Systems 
    •   Knowledge of multi-functional printers.

    Office Administrator (12 Months Contract) (Re-Advertisement) Ref: NICD1123/002-09

    To provide general services administration support to the business in order to facilitate communication between departments and create an audit trail. 

    Key Job Responsibilities: 

    •  Support the collation of information from the different Centre’s and Division within the Institute 
    •  Work as part of a team to facilitate sound administration on assigned projects 
    •  Support reasonable request from the line manager 
    •  Facilitate proper reporting-management and report writing

    Minimum requirements and key competencies: 

    •  Grade 12 with Office Administration Certificate 
    •  Diploma or Degree in Office Administration advantageous

    •  Experience in a medical environment (desirable)
