Messenger | Patient Services at Life Healthcare

• A vacancy exists for a Messenger position reporting to the Reception Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for hospital deliveries and the safe transport of patients throughout the hospital.

Critical Outputs
Messenger Duties:

• Carry out hospital deliveries and trips as per authorisation.
• Maintain accurate records of the logbook.
• Maintain the vehicle i.e. cleanliness etc.
• Check and report faults to ensure road worthiness.
• To perform drivers, function in accordance with the region policies and procedures, SHEQ requirements and the Road Traffic Act and Regulations.
• To successfully complete the advanced driver training course.
• A strong commitment to teamwork and the ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
• Knowledge of Hospital Procedures.
• Must be familiar with Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.
• Must be able to use their initiative.

Porter Duties

• Safe Transporting of patients between hospital departments, including wards, Doctors’ rooms, Radiology and Pathology.
• Distribution of internal memos and correspondence.
• Directing patients and visitors in a friendly manner to the relevant departments within the hospital.
• Ensure a well maintained and clean reception area and presentation of Life Healthcare magazines and promotional material.
• Assist with compiling patient pre-admission packs.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Reception Supervisor.

Requirements

• Valid Matric Certificate.
• Valid Code 8/10 Drivers License (PDP would be a pre-requisite).
• Previous hospital environment experience advantageous.
• Must reside in the PMB/Hilton area.
• Must be able to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays.
• Must be physically fit due to the nature of the job.
• Must display a pleasant disposition and take pride in appearance.
• Must understand and display patient centric principles.
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
• Atleast 3 years’ experience as a Driver.
• The candidate must be able to manage time effectively.
