    Metallurgist (Fixed Term)

    • The role of the Metallurgist will be to contribute to and support of metallurgical processes at the processing plant. You may be involved in general production or specific process e.g. crushing, processing, product handling, waste handling and quality.

    Kumba Iron Ore

    • We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

    Job Description

    As a Metallurgist your responsibilities will include the following:

    • Appling metallurgical processes and principles at the operations, interprets data and compiles reports as part of assessing process performance of the operations
    • Conducting metallurgical audits to ensure plant integrity and compliance with metallurgical standards.
    • Conducting investigations in order to improve performance of Metallurgical equipment and processes, identify root causes and process reviews.
    • Assisting in investigating, planning and implementing improvement projects.
    • Liaise with engineering to identify engineering opportunities for improvement.
    • Support the preparation of cost/benefit returns for improvement projects.
    • Developing a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers.
    • Supporting and participate in the training and development requirements of employees.
    • Active participation to safety initiatives .
    • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance to statutory requirements is met.
    • Adherence to safety standards

    This role is in the Processing department at a level Band 6/10 reporting to the Metallurgical Technical Engineer.

    Qualifications

    • Matric
    • BEng or BTech in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering
    • Valid driver’s license

    Experience:

    • 3 Years Mining or Plant Operations
