Metallurgist at Tharisa

Purpose of Role

The Metallurgist is responsible for the application of metallurgical principles to the production practices, process and quality control system, product and process improvement programs, and plant functions

Role Context

• Adherence to the plant production plan
• Coordinates technical services to the plant section
• Advise on process maintenance plan
• Process control within defined recipe
• Execute minor projects within project guidelines
• Investigating corrosion and metal failure/fatigue
• Liaising with and supervising engineering and technical staff
• Creating precise designs for components
• Developing prototypes and innovative solutions to problems
• Developing new test/repair processes
• Alignment to the production plan
• Primary focus is on effective operation of the plant to optimize efficiencies and recoveries and maintain quality of produced products
• Effective operation of the plant process to agreed process parameters to achieve daily and monthly targets
• Assist to create high performing teams
• Administration of necessary systems
• People Management
• Comply to company franchise rules, policies and procedures and have a high moral standard

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

• Grade 12/ NQF Level 4
• Diploma or degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/ Metallurgy

Job specific experience:

• At least Three years’ experience as metallurgist in processing plants.
• Computer Literate
• Valid driver’s license
