Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As the Mining Technician, Drilling and Blasting your responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring blasting activities, analyse results, and submit recommendations to achieve the desired fragmentation. 

• Scrutinising, inspecting, and approving blast block designs to ensure safe blasting 

• Training and preparing individuals who must obtain a blasting certificate to ensure knowledge transfer and statutory compliance. 

• Compiling action plans for candidates not yet competent to assist them in achieving the desired level of competence and certification

• Providing advice to relevant stakeholders on surface blasting practices to proactively alleviate or avoid any unnecessary problems and to always ensure statutory compliance.  

• Managing the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.  

• Ensuring work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their own performance. 

• Understanding the complete KOTF structural changes for the Production North Mining Department. Participate as an effective team member working collaboratively with the Manager on the Department implementation plan and develop an implementation plan for approval for North Mining.

This role is in the Mining department at a Band 7 level reporting to the Specialist Engineer Drilling and Blasting. 

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or N3

• National Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering

• Blasting Ticket

• Blasting Engineering Course advantageous

• Driver’s Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

 Experience:

• Operational experience at a Foreman or Mine Overseer level in Drilling and Blasting  

• Experience in Drilling or Blasting logistics  

• 3 years plus experience in Blasting or Drilling Operations
