Ministerial Designees To Serve On The South African Vetenary Coucil(SAVC) at Department of Agriculture(DOA)

• The Minister of Agriculture, acting in terms of Section 5(1)(of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act, 1982 (Act No. 19 of 1982), has appointed a Selection Panel to identify and recommend suitable individuals for appointment as Ministerial Designees to the next South African Veterinary Council (SAVC), as prescribed by Section 5(1)(of the Act.

The Selection Panel has been mandated to select the following categories of candidates:

• Two (2) persons on account of their knowledge of law;
• Eight (8) veterinarians or veterinary specialists; and
• Two (2) non-veterinarians.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Individuals wishing to be considered for appointment are invited to submit the following:

• A letter of motivation indicating suitability for one of the above categories (c(i), c(ii), or c(iii));
• A comprehensive CV;
• Certified copies of all relevant qualifications; and
• A certified copy of the applicant’s ID.
• Members of the Council shall hold office for a period of three (3) years and will be eligible for redesignation thereafter.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for selection, an applicant must:

• Be a veterinarian or veterinary specialist, where required;
• Be registered on the practising roll of the Legal Practice Council, where required;
• Be a South African citizen;
• Be a permanent resident in the Republic;
• Not suffer from mental illness, as defined in Section 1 of the Mental Health Act, 1973 (Act No. 18 of 1973)
• Not have been sequestrated or entered into a composition with creditors; and
• Not have been convicted of an offence for which they were sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine, where such sentence was not suspended.
