Multi - Discipline Specialist at Nedbank

Job Purpose

To provide zOS (i.e. IBM mainframe OS), specialist technical expertise and support in installing; testing; tuning; optimising; diagnosing problems; repairing; upgrading and maintaining both externally and internally supplied hardware and systems software and other utility enabling software and related equipment. In addition provide guidance and advice related to the integration of solutions across technologies; ensuring all outputs are in compliance with current governance and legislation and provide IT leadership based on IT and business acumen.

Job Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains the zOS (i.e. IBM mainframe OS) installations, configuration procedures to ensure stability, reliability and performance
• Resolve issues by inspecting malfunctioning computer hardware, software and/or components - analysing cause, and planning repair procedures.
• Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models and systems.
• Support the business process needs by performing and consulting on a variety of technical tasks in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance and installation of computers and/or related equipment
• Ensure documentation for relevant systems software product and operational documents are prepared and maintained
• Consult and provide advice on the use of the multiple technologies

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

• Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Minimum Experience Level

• 10+ years exposure to IT environment
• Minimum of 8 years Mainframe zOS Systems Engineering

Technical / Professional Knowledge

• Experience working in a large MVS, JES2 mainframe environment
• Extensive experience with SMP/E installs required
• Mainframe hardware configuration
• HMC – operations of the hardware management configuration
• Workload manager
• 10+ years of experience in the mainframe technical support field
• Experience working in a large MVS, JES2 mainframe environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
