The primary functions of the role are to create and implement a strategy for business development and operations in line with the overall company strategy and policies for the Seafreight Business Field, to develop and maintain profitable operations and to recruit, manage, motivate and lead the Seafreight team specialists. The National Sea Logistics Manager will be the leading Sea Logistics position in the country and will have direct reporting responsibilities to the National Manager of the country, and dotted line to the Regional Sea Logistics Manager.
Your Responsibilities
Determines or co-operates in the determination of the business strategy and executes / secures its implementation
Has an active role in business development, in the aquisition of new business, and in tender analysis, solution design, costing, pricing and service offering
Localizes the global Seafreight products to meet market expectations and requirements
Monitors market trends and competitor activity in order to identify new business opportunities (acquisition candidates, new services, business partners, etc.)
Secures the continuity of regional or national carrier relationships: evaluates home / regional carrier initiatives for local market requirements, and negotiates in the framework of the global preferred carrier program.
Ensures efficient Seafreight operations and continuously optimises the operations by implementing standard processes in line with corporate guidelines and targets (such as Data Quality). Co-operates in the development and implementation of business operation and reporting Systems.
Responsible for the profit and loss, and for the annual budget (creation, monitoring, corrective actions in case of deviations).
Selects, recruits and continuously reviews the performance of the Sea Logistics key staff. Promotes the development of talent and initiates business field specific education and training to ensure continuous improvement of staff qualification.
Your Skills and Experiences
At least 3-5 years in management role, within Sea Logistics
A solid understanding of logistics, with a strong focus on Sea Logistics and the South African market
Willingness to travel regularly
Working well in team: being able to motivate and bring people together
Taking ownership: being able to take topics projects to completion
Handling pressure and being a problem solver
