    NGAP Lecturer - Communication Studies

    REQUIREMENTS:  

    • A Master’s, Degree in Communication Studies or equivalent (such as specialised areas of Communication: Public Relations, Organisational Communication) with an average of academic competence of 70% and above  
    • Currently enrolled in a PhD programme in Communication Studies and demonstrating satisfactory academic progress. 
    • The applicant must be a South African citizen.  
    • The applicant must be below 40 years of age 
    • A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in the field of Communication Studies at the tertiary education level. (e.g. as a Tutor or junior lecturer or recognised mentor). 

    Added Advantage: 

    • Emerging track record in DHET-accredited journals. 
    • The candidate should demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the discipline, the challenges facing the higher education sector, and a professional work ethic, i.e teamwork and confidentiality.

    • Demonstrate knowledge of research. (The importance of research in academia, and the ability to write and publish papers). 
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in basic curriculum development. 
    • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, i.e., emotional intelligence, communication, and conflict management/resolution. 

    DUTIES:  

    The incumbent will be responsible for the following: 

    • Teaching and Learning: Full involvement in all courses, design and curriculum development, updating material in respect of national and international trends, evaluation of lectures and course material, maintaining discussion class programmes, identifying at-risk students and facilitating additional assistance, undertaking discipline-related research.  
    • Research: Responsibilities include supervising Honours and Master’s students, actively engaging in research activities, overseeing and collaborating with project teams on research initiatives, participating in academic conferences, and producing measurable research outputs such as publishable journal articles, books, and book chapters. 
    • Academic Citizenship: Involvement in community engagement, success in the implementation of projects, and taking an active role in professional organisations.  
    • Governance: Organise course files, deliver on deadlines, record all academic activities, and participate in Departmental, School, and Faculty committees
