A Master’s degree in medicine (MMed) or Fellow of the college of FCPHMP (SA) or equivalent, meeting HPCSA definition of an Occupational Medical Specialist. Registration Current HPCSA Registration as a medical specialist in Occupational Medicine. Experience: Appropriate experience as an occupational medicine specialist after HPCSA registration.
Other: A valid Driver’s Licence. Willingness to travel, work overtime, and supervise registrars, OMPs, and other OHS practitioners. Willingness to be trained in super-specialist areas (ergonomics, construction safety, exposure science, etc.).
Competencies: Identification and assessment of risks/health hazards. Surveillance of factors in the working environment. Advising on occupational health, safety, hygiene, ergonomics, and protective equipment. Organising first aid and emergency treatment. Advising on work planning and organization. Improving working conditions. Strengthening workplace health promotion.
Duties :
Perform identification and assessment of risks and health hazards in the GDOH. Carry out surveillance of factors in the working environment affecting worker/patient health and safety.
Advise on occupational health, safety, hygiene, ergonomics, and protective equipment. Organize first aid and emergency treatment. Advise on work planning, organization, and ergonomic design.
Strengthen workplace health promotion to enhance quality of working life. Develop GDOH work organization and culture. Utilize human resources management to increase working capacity of employees.
