Onsetter without Blasting Certificate at Gold Fields Limited

Job Details:

The primary focus of the role is to ensure safety standards and conveyance loading protocols are fully adhered to for the safe conveyancing of shift personnel and material cars

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Onsetters’ certificate
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an onsetter
• Be able to work under stressful environments / high production shaft environments
• Have sound knowledge of shaft operations
• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensuring that safety standards are followed and understood, and that order is maintained around the shaft area
• Monitor that personnel enter the cages in accordance with relevant safety procedures and are wearing the correct protective clothing (PPE)
• Ensure all safety devices are in place when operating the cage, inclusive of stop locks, shaft gauge and that the cage door is locked prior to signalling etc.
• Allocating duties to subordinates and assisting with loading/off-loading of the conveyance
• Check that the shift is secure behind the station gates during the loading of material cars
• Ensure that shift personnel inside the cage follow safety protocols at all time during cage motion Giving signals as stipulated by relevant legislation, for the raising and lowering of employees/material
• Liaising with banksman in connection with material/employees to be lowered or raised during shift
• Manage the number of employees entering the conveyance in accordance with the safe workload of the conveyance
• Complete a checklist at start of the shift to ensure all safety devices are operable and in position
