Grade 12 or equivalent. Basic R425 qualification (diploma/ degree in general nursing and midwifery) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. Current registration with SANC for 2026. A minimum of 9 years appropriate / recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Post basic nursing qualification of the duration of 1 year, accredited with SANC in Operating Theatre nursing science .
At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate / recognizable experience in Operating Theatre nursing after obtaining the 1-year post-basic nursing qualification .
The applicant should be in possession of an additional qualification registered with SANC according to Regulation R212 in Health Services Management/Nursing Administration (degree or diploma).Computer literacy i.e. (Ms Word, Power Point). Ability to work independently and innovatively. Knowledge of legal prescripts that regulate nursing and health services. Ability to take charge and make appropriate independent decisions. Decision making and problem-solving abilities within the limit of the public sector .
Display empathy for patients, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment and care. Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing strategy, nursing statutes, Ideal Hospital Realization framework ,CPD framework, PMDS policy and other relevant frameworks such as Nursing Act, OHS Act, Patient Right Charter, Batho Pele Principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure, etc.
Financial and budgetary knowledge pertaining to the relevant resources under management. Insight into the procedures and policies pertaining to nursing care. Skills: Leadership, Unit management/unit administration, planning, organizing, co-ordination and communication skills. Facilitation and presentation skills. Duties :
Perform as an operational manager in accordance with the scope or practice. To apply nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices to improve and maintain service delivery.
To ensure clinical nursing practice by the nursing team (unit) and to promote quality of nursing care as directed in accordance with the professional scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the health facility. Implement of the Ideal Hospital and Realization framework. Apply basic HR and financial policies and theatre standards when coordinating care to our patients and other stakeholders. Relieve duties and support the office of the Assistant Manager Nursing.
To demonstrate effective communication with patients, relatives, supervisors, other health professionals and junior colleagues including more complex report writing when required. To work as part of the multi- disciplinary team on a supervisory level to ensure good nursing care by the nursing team and optimal theatre utilisation .
To work effectively and amicably at a supervisory level, with persons of diverse intellectual, cultural, racial or religious differences and able to manage own work, time and that of junior colleagues to ensure proper nursing service in the unit. To provide support and advice to health institutions within the cluster and catchment area.
Implement of the Ideal Hospital and Realization framework. To ensure that the environment complies with the Health and Safety Act and Infection and Prevention Control Policies. Ensure that in-service training is seen as part of the daily duties and CPD framework is implemented . Co-ordination and provision of effective training and research.
Compile and analyze reports to improve quality of patient care. Manage and monitor effective utilization and supervision of human, financial and material resources. Participate in the analysis, formulation and implementation of nursing guidelines, practices, standards and procedures. Implement PMDS according to policy.
