Operational Manager Nursing Specialty Unit (PN-B3)
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Degree/Diploma in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse with Midwifery. An additional qualification registered with SANC according to Regulation R212 in Health Services Management/Nursing Administration (Degree or Diploma).
A minimum of nine (9) years appropriate/recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least five (5) years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in a Gynaecology Oncology department after obtaining the one (1) year post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science – Oncology Nursing. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council 2026.
COMPETENCIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Competencies: leadership, ward management/ward administration, planning, organizing, co-ordination, and communication skills. Ability to take charge and make appropriate independent decisions. Display empathy for patients, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment and care. Knowledge of administrative policies and guidelines.
Duties :
Supervise and evaluate quality of nursing care as directed by Professional scope of practice and set Nursing standards within a professional /legal framework. Implement nursing legislation and related framework and ethical nursing practices.
Manage resources effectively and efficiently in the unit. Compile and analyse reports to improve quality of patient care.
Participate in training, research, and self-development. Be allocated to work night shifts, weekends, public holidays and relieve the supervisor when required.
Perform as an Operational Manager in accordance with the Scope of Practice Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other health professionals and junior colleagues. Implementation of Ideal Hospital Framework.
