    Operational Manager Speciality (Maternity Ward)

    Requirements :

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification. Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as Professional Nurse.
    • A post – basic nursing qualification, with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with SANC in the speciality referred above. Registration with SANC a Professional Nurse. A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
    • At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate /recognisable experience in Maternal, child and women’s Health with specific emphasis of labour and post-natal wards, after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant speciality and be registered with SANC.Knowledge of code of conduct, labour relations and related policies. Ensure adherence to prescribed nursing standards and legal framework. A Qualification in Health Service Management will be added advantage.
    • Other Skills: Leadership, Management, planning, organising and co-ordination skills. Knowledge of relevant acts, prescripts, policies and procedure governing health care service delivery.

    Duties :

    • Demonstrate an in- depth understanding of the scope of practice in the areas under their control. Sound knowledge of priority programs clinical guidelines, Protocols, policies and procedure and the best practices in nursing care service delivery. Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with nursing and other stakeholders.
    • Implement decision – making, problem solving, conflict management, counselling, teaching, mentorship and supervisory skills. Ensure that all quality and infection control initiative are adhered to i.e. OHS/ideal hospital. Ensure implementation and proper management of PMDS. Ensure appropriate implementation of Batho- Pele principles.
    • Manage and support education, in – service training and own professional grow and that of nursing staff. Oversee disciplinary and grievance matters including monitoring and managing absenteeism. Implement consequences management for non-compliance. Implement effective utilization and supervision of human, material and financial resources.
