Grade 12 or equivalent qualification. Bachelor’s degree in optometry. Proof of current registration and registration certificate with HPSCA as an Optometrist. Theoretical and practical knowledge of Optometry.
Experience
Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession as an Optometrist in respect of South African qualified employees who performed Community Service, as required in South Africa. One-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in the as an Optometrist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Optometrist in respect of South African qualified employees who performed Community Service, as required in South Africa. Minimum of 11 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in the as an Optometrist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Optometrist in respect of South African qualified employees who performed Community Service, as required in South Africa. Minimum of 21 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Optometrist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Computer literacy (Ms Word, Excel, Power Point). Knowledge of relevant legislations and related legal and ethical practices, PFMA and Public Service Act and regulations. Good written and communication skills. Ability to interact with patients, therapists and family/public. Ability to interact with the multidisciplinary team.
Good time management and communication skills. Good interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to function under pressure. The incumbent should be a team player.
Willingness to travel within the West Rand District Health Services. Effective communication skills, Counselling Skills, Planning Skills, organizing skills, People skills, problem solving skills. and computer Literacy. Valid driver’s license.
Duties :
Provide Optometrist services at the Primary Health Care facilities. The Optometrist should be able to work in collaboration with other stakeholders. Conduct Optometry assessment, treatment of patients and issuing of spectacles.
Study, interpret, apply, and give information on legislation and policies in the identified work fields. Engage in continuous professional development and in service training. Liaise /attend meetings with other stake holders. Involved in Research and development in the district.
Perform all administrative functions: complete daily and monthly statistics. Compose minutes of meetings. Compile reports and comprehensive record keeping and administrative tasks. Maintain physical and electronic records. Manage the workload of the sub-district Therapeutic Services Co-Ordinator when absent.
