Co-ordinate and organize daily workload and smooth running of the department. Must know the department functions.
• Ensure equipment is adequately serviced. Attend seminars and workshops to keep up to date with new advances in technique and technology. Monitor stock, maintain adequate weekly, monthly and patient statistics.
• Promote teamwork and interpersonal relationships amongst staff members and other health workers, and policies and procedures in line with applicable legislation. Overseeing the Clinical Community Psychiatric Services (CCPT) to address the broad range of population mental health needs and prevent relapse/readmission after hospital discharge.
• Ensuring the provision of mental health promotion, prevention interventions, and capacity development for caregivers and community health workers. Conducting regular audits of clinical records and submitting quarterly reports to the Mental Health Directorate regarding service implementation and compliance with the Mental Health Care Act. Integrating mental health indicators into the routine district information systems to monitor and evaluate care outcomes.
• Managing patient safety incidents and resolving complaints in line with regulated norms and standards. Engaging with non-health sectors (Education, Social Development, Justice, SAPS) and advocacy groups to ensure an inter-sectoral approach to mental health and recovery.
• Establishing constructive working relationships with local communities and family associations to promote mental wellbeing. Participate in the analysis, formulation and implementation of nursing guidelines, practices, standards and procedures. Manage human resources, monitor and ensure proper utilization of financial and resources. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and development of self and subordinates. Any other duties allocated to the position by DSMHT.
