    Part-Time (5/8s) Maties Women Hockey Head Coach (Post Level 9)

    Duties/Pligte        

    Leadership and management:

    • Leading the High Performance and Club Coaching programme's planning, monitoring, and reporting of a sustainable coaching structure that serves as an excellent value proposition for club members and coaches.
    • Providing strategic input on performance and development outcomes.
    • Submitting quarterly reports aligned to the Maties Sport MERL framework.
    • Leading weekly reporting and planning meetings with the Maties Sport Coaching staff.
    • Being an active participant and contributing member of the Maties Sport Club Committee.

    Recruitment and retention:

    • Establishing, optimising and implementing a three-year Recruitment and Retention Strategy to include talent identification, scouting and recruitment; transformation requirements aligned to and meeting the SU admissions policy and academic requirements.
    • Establishing, optimising and implementing a three-year sport bursary budget in line with recruitment strategy and Maties Sport allocations, in consultation with the Maties Sport Club Manager.
    • Implementing a long-term student-athlete development pathway that aligns with the sustainable bursary budget.
    • Promoting the quality of opportunities for the BCIA students as a priority strategic objective, and aligned to the Transformation Plan of Maties Sport.
    • Working with the Senior Manager: Hockey and the Senior Manager: Maties Sport High Performance in the facilitation, implementation and monitoring of the annual sport bursary budget according to Stellenbosch University's and Maties Sport's requirements for the final approval from the Chief Director: Maties Sport.

    Performance enhancement:

    • Leading the coaching of Maties Sport teams participating in national university competitions and local leagues.
    • Ensuring a sustainable club coaching model that specifically focuses on long-term student-athlete development of BICA student-athletes.
    • Designing and implementing a coaching performance evaluation system to ensure that annual performance targets are met for the respective sport clubs.
    • Developing a coaching development pathway and performance evaluation system, aligned with the
    • Maties Sport training and development programme and meeting transformation requirements for competitions.

    Integrated Medicine and Science (IMAS) and holistic student-athlete support:

    • Managing the implementation of an evidence-based annual IMAS performance enhancement programme to ensure continued enhancement of performance in all competitions and leagues, in close collaboration with the HP Unit, support staff and medical staff at Campus Health Services.
    • Ensuring access to the Maties Sport Injury Clinic and injury management programme through injury reporting.
    • Managing individual performance assessments.
    • Successful management of the student-athlete empowerment programme (PACER) to include the full participation of all student-athletes.
    • Contributing to the overall functioning of the Maties Sport annual performance plans and its future by accepting responsibilities for sustainability and adhering to a code of high-performance ethics.
    • Promoting drug free sport amongst the student-athletes.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes        

    • SAHA Level 2 coaching certificate or equivalent recognised coaching course.
    • A valid driver's licence and own transport.
    • The position requires working after hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
    • At least three years' coaching experience within the environments of high school, university, provincial and/or national level.
    • Applied knowledge and experience working with athletes on a development pathway.
    • Experience in athlete recruitment and engagement with relevant networks such as schools.
    • Experience with working effectively as part of an integrated coaching- and support staff team.
    • Proven experience in leading coaching teams and implementing structured player development pathways.
    • Understanding of recruitment, retention, and high-performance programme management within a university or similar environment.
    • Strong technical and tactical coaching¿expertise.
    • The ability to give strategic direction in an ever-increasing professional environment.
    • A participative and effective leadership and management style.
    • High level of management and leadership skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Process oriented that will lead to results.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strategic planning and programme management capability.
    • Strong organisational and reporting ability.
    • Computer literacy regarding MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
    • Administrative skills: the ability to provide accurate and informative written and verbal reports.
    • The ability to take initiative, be innovative and to function effectively under pressure.
    • The ability to prioritise effectively.
    • Accuracy in performing administrative tasks.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
    • Understanding of student-athlete support frameworks within a university environment.
    • Knowledge of transformation and compliance requirements in sport.
    • The knowledge, ability and sophistication needed to interact with business, government, federations/unions/franchises, and other national stakeholders such as schools.

    Recommendation/Aanbeveling        

    • Experience within a sport, university or development organisation.
