    Pipe Fitter

    THE ROLE

    The position of Pipe Fitter has become available within Amawandle Hake and will be based at Elbow Quay. This position reports to the Workshop Manager. The purpose of this role is to maintain and modify, install and repair pipe fitting and machinery where necessary.

    DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Review and understand pipe drawings and layout
    • Set and modify specifications
    • Work with copper/ plastic/ stainless steel pipes
    • Measure and cut pipes according to requirements
    • Weld and assemble pipe structures
    • Install and secure pipes (e.g. with clamps)
    • Repair malfunctions, breakages, or leaks
    • Use and maintain tools (e.g. pipe bender/ thread cutting machine, cutting torch)
    • Collaborate with other workers
    • Follow safety guidelines and use protective equipment (e.g. goggles)
    • Preventative maintenance activities
    • Report on defective or machinery that requires attention to avoid massive costs
    • Cost control management of materials, time and labour
    • Resolve piping issues (e.g. clogs/ leaks, etc.)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

    • Able to work under pressure
    • Must be physically fit - as most work is done outdoors
    • Delivers high output and is deadline driven
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledge of health and safety guidelines when dealing with dangerous equipment or chemicals
    • Good numerical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work in shifts and/or overtime
    • Ability to work independently.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum 3 years' industry experience after trade test completed
    • Experience as a Pipe Fitter within Marine industry
    • Minimum Qualifications - Grade 12
    • NQF level 4 or equivalent Trade Test Pipe Fitting
    • Knowledge Required Root Cause Analysis.
