    Pit Grade Control Geologist

    Role Context

    • Grade Control Model and Reconciliation.
    • Geological test-holes and RC planned & drilled 100% as per the strategy.
    • Weekly update of the test holes and RC grade control model.
    • Weekly reconciliation of actual feed grade against mining block grade.
    • Establish and on-going update of all geological grade control procedures and work-instruction, minimum 2 per month.
    • Contractor management = Zero contractor complain.
    • Geological Database and Management:
    • 100% RC Drilling and Test holes database management and control (Zero backlog);
    • All 100% update of Drill logs lithology; - Assays; - QA/QC etc. all as planned.
    • All Geological Maps as planned (example, Structure plan):
    • 100% Pit bench face geological mapping;
    • Ore-type pit contact marking;
    • Geological drill-hole test holes implementation/enforcement and interpretation;
    • All pit geological data are collected, recorded, interpreted and communicated to mining team to form part of the technical mining decision;
    • Understanding the geometry of the orebody.
    • Mining Grade Control Activities Coordination & Management:
    • 100% Ore mining blocks pit visit/inspection before and after blasting then waste and ore physical block demarcation. Mine Planning blocks access implementation; 
    • 20% Overseer audit of drilled mining block;
    • 100% mining geology data interpretation;
    • Physical measurement of mining dilution and mining ore-loss, and reporting;
    • Implementation and management control of systems.
    • 100% Mining geological Digging plan;
    • 100% Trenches digging done to mark geological contacts; Waste Mining-cut marking (using spray paint); Reefing shovel operating running board/area planning;
    • Ore digging procedure/work instruction established and implemented.
    • 100% mining geological Digging plan. 100% Trenches digging done to mark geological contacts; Ore Mining-cut marking (using spray paint) per mining block; Reefing shovel operating running board/area planning and execution.
    • Ore digging procedure/work instruction established and implemented.
    • Collaborate with Mining Engineers/ Planners to agree on how best to extract/utilisation of the ore reserve.
    • 100% application of the Ore mining block signoff control procedure.
    • RoM/ Expit material destination assignment (sole mandate) to either RoM Ore stockpile and/or waste-dump.
    • Geology Assistants daily supervision (management control and direct):
    • Per shift give responsibilities/ line-up to geology assistant and Intern.
    • Ensure individual geological work ownership controls. Measure outputs/actual against plan responsibilities.
    • Stockpiles Management Control:
    • Ore Stockpiles management and identification:
    • 100% Ore stockpiles management;
    • 100% Stockpiles Identity boards exist;
    • RoMpad management and control;
    • RoMpad infrastructure management;
    • Ore stockpiles inventory levels management-control (demand and supply principle);
    • RoM stockpiles requirements communication;
    • Daily sampling / stockpiles grade evaluation and feed grade modelling, Algorithm and simulation.
    • Weekly Crusher Plant Feed report.
    • Weekly feed grade simulation - report and planned.
    • Feed plan report approval and communication all mining team;
    • Daily crusher feed ore grade variation control and management;
    • Low Grade stockpile reduction of 10 000 tonnes per month.
    • Continuous feed grade monitoring and control management.
    • Reconciliation of grade control models and ore-types;
    • Immediately corrective actions taken to achieve planned grade;
    • Reconcile plants feed plan grade with the actual mining feed grade;
    • Implement continuous improvement actions plan to achieve budget.
    • Signed off and implementation of own IDP;
    • Signed off and implementation of IDP for subordinate;
    • 100% Geology Interns development plan implementation.
    • Ensure good geology inputs onto mining practices and optimize/implement ore quality and grade control from the pit; onto ex-pit/run-of-mine (RoM); ore stockpiles management and the execution of the estimated crusher plants feed grade stability;
    • Ensure reliable and timely pit delineation of ore and waste pit mining and be given authority to lead, control, schedule the ore digging operation of blast blocks and ore mining excavation for tonnage and grade control; and overall reconciliation;
    • Writing of mining geology reports daily, weekly and monthly as required.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12/ NQF Level 4
    • Bachelor of Science with Honours Degree in Geology
    • Registered with SACNASP

    Job specific experience:

    • 7 years of mining experience of which 4 years as pit grade control production geologist
    • Driver’s license code 8
    • Bushveld Complex Geology experience advantageous)
