A role has become available for a Junior Plant Breeder for the Squash Breeding Programme for the Research and Development Department based in Kempton Park. The purpose of this role is to continuously develop competitive varieties for our present and future market needs.

• Responsibilities
• Assist the Breeding Programme Manager to design, plan, implement and evaluate new breeding trials to ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.
• Establish market requirements and implement relevant breeding strategies in order to develop new cultivars.
• Ensure availability of required quantities and quality of basic stock seed.
• Manage accurate and detailed record-keeping and administration pertaining to breeding programmes.
• Communicate breeding program activities to Breeding Programme Manager and sales team and provide ongoing technical support.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

• A 4-year/B.Sc(Hon) degree in Agriculture (majoring in Plant Breeding/genetics / closely related field)
• Sound knowledge and understanding of genetic theory, traditional breeding methods, biometry, pathology, and biotechnology
• 1-3 years of field-breeding experience.
