Portfolio Analyst Internship at Coronation Fund Managers

This role has diverse responsibilities across the investment and operational spheres of the business with a focus on assisting Portfolio Managers in theirexecution of investment strategies. Serving as a link between Portfolio Managers and dealers, Portfolio analysts are positioned on the trading desk to facilitate continuous interaction with dealers on order status and portfolio altering developments. You will contribute to the investment process by enhancing the Portfolio Manager’s understanding of the impact of certain investment decisions, while also actively managing compliance and cash flows within a diverse range of investment mandates.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Implementation:

• Portfolio modelling across all Asset classes (Local and International)
• Implementing portfolio trades with regards to cash flows, portfolio take-on or transitions
• Implementing changes in asset allocation across various portfolios
• Order calculation and implementation involving continuous communication with the portfolio managers
• Daily Portfolio reporting – morning exposure reports
• Daily Pre and Post Trade compliance mandate monitoring,
• (being familiar with fund mandates and knowing what investments are suitable and which aren’t, before trading takes place.)
• Monitoring of portfolio exposures and trades
• Portfolio checking and performance monitoring
• Instrument queries on all Asset classes
• Monitoring of unit trust and instrument pricing  Ad hoc queries, tasks, etc.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

• Ideal Qualification
  • Commerce or related financial qualification
  • Numerical subjects of critical importance – accounts, maths or stats
  • Business Science Finance or quantitative management or BComm with accounts, stats and finance
• Competencies and Ideal personality attributes:

• Systems knowledge:
  • MSOffice with advanced Excel
  • Reuters, Inet or Bloomberg an advantage
  • Knowledge of Portfolio Management Systems
  • VBA an added advantage

  • Ability to be highly accurate whilst working under pressure

Ideal Qualifications    

• A completed university degree in finance or commerce.
