Principal Exploration at Exxaro Resources

Position Overview:
As the Principal Exploration, you will:

• Lead and Strategize: Guide functional leaders in the execution of Exxaro’s Exploration Strategy within developed frameworks, ensuring technical, legal, and safety compliance.
• Technical Expert: Act as the functional exploration authority, conducting reviews, evaluations, and providing recommendations for asset opportunities aligned with strategic goals.
• Execute Scientifically: Employ advanced technologies, skills, and methodologies to deliver credible and precise exploration data.
• Evaluate and Optimize: Perform techno-economic evaluations of exploration assets and drive data-driven decisions that shape the organization’s growth.
• Collaborate and Innovate: Represent Exxaro in strategic technical relationships, applying expertise in diverse geoscience disciplines, including geophysics, geochemistry, geology, and more.
• Team Leadership: Direct integrated exploration teams to ensure seamless execution of drilling, sampling, and survey campaigns.

Minimum Requirements    

• QUALIFICATIONS:
• BSc (Hons) Geology (Essential/Minimum or)
• BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
• BSc (Hons) Metallurgy (Essential/Minimum or)
• B Degree (Hons) (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
• Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
• Master’s Degree (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE: 

• 8-10 years Proven track record of leadership in exploration management roles in the mining / resource industry. Demonstrable track record of leading techno-economic evaluations, project management, due diligence exercises and business integration activities. Subject matter expert in exploration theory, geoscientific approaches and techniques, and project execution, preferably across diverse jurisdictions. Manage / Guide multi-functional technical teams. • Geological Society of SA (GSSA) (Recommended/Desirable)
• SA Council for Natural Scientific Prof (Recommended/Desirable)
• Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended/Desirable)
• SA Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities    
Ideal Candidate Profile (Includes but not limited to):

Ability to:

• Be accountable for guiding functional leads in the execution of Exxaro’s Exploration strategy. 
• Execute exploration campaigns within developed frameworks aligned with set procedures and technical, legal and safety requirements. 
• Assist the Manager Exploration the technical scanning and evaluation of global mineral asset opportunities. 
• Act as functional exploration expert leading teams during technical reviews and evaluations to establish technical, commercial, and strategic fit. 
• Take active lead and advisory role in guiding exploration activities to best industry practices, ensuring compliance with applicable reporting codes. 
• Execute exploration activities scientifically through the application of the appropriate skills, technology, and methodologies to ensure accumulation of accurate credible information. Conduct techno-economic evaluations of exploration mineral assets. 
• Act as Exxaro technical lead in strategic relationships guiding towards best technical applications in geophysical, geochemical, geological, structural, estimation, hydrogeology, geo-metallurgical applications. 
• Direct integrated exploration team towards effective execution of drilling, sampling and survey campaigns.
